Total Time 1 hour hr
- 1 13.2 oz package of regular Oreos (separated)
- ½ cup unsalted butter melted
- 8 oz cream cheese softened
- ½ cup granulated sugar
- 2 teaspoons pure vanilla extract
- 16 oz Cool Whip divided
- 1 ½ cups powdered sugar divided
- 2 3 oz packs of instant chocolate pudding mix
- 2 12 oz cans of evaporated milk
- 1 cup chocolate fudge syrup
In a food processor, crush all but 10 Oreos into fine crumbs. Combine the crumbs with the melted butter, then press the mixture firmly into the bottom of a 9x13-inch casserole dish. Place the crust in the refrigerator to chill while preparing the filling.
To make the filling, beat the cream cheese, granulated sugar, and vanilla extract together until smooth and fluffy. In a separate bowl, fold 1 cup of powdered sugar into half of the Cool Whip. Then gently fold the Cool Whip mixture into the cream cheese mixture.
Prepare the pudding by whisking the instant pudding mix with the evaporated milk until thickened. Be sure to work quickly, as the pudding will start to set and may become lumpy within a few minutes.
Layer the dessert by spreading the cream cheese mixture evenly over the chilled crust. Follow with a layer of the pudding mixture on top of the cream cheese layer.
Refrigerate the dessert for at least 30 minutes to set.
For the topping, fold the remaining powdered sugar into the remaining Cool Whip. Spread this Cool Whip mixture over the dessert. Crumble the reserved Oreos on top, and finish by drizzling with chocolate fudge syrup.
Storage Instructions:
Refrigerator: Once the dessert has set, cover the casserole dish tightly with plastic wrap. Alternatively, transfer individual servings into a single layer in an airtight container. It can be stored in the refrigerator for up to 5 days.
Freezer: To freeze, let the Oreo dessert set in the freezer for a few hours before wrapping it in a double layer of plastic wrap. You can also freeze individual portions in a single layer in an airtight container. It will stay fresh in the freezer for up to 3 months. When ready to serve, thaw the dessert in the refrigerator.
Substitution Options:
- Regular Oreo cookies: You can substitute with any chocolate cream-filled cookies or even use double-stuffed Oreos for a slightly less chocolaty dessert.
- Vanilla extract: Almond extract works as well, but use slightly less, as it has a stronger flavor.
- Cool Whip: Homemade whipped cream is a great alternative if preferred.
- Evaporated milk: Whole milk can be used instead, though the dessert will be slightly less rich.
- Chocolate fudge syrup: Chocolate milk syrup makes a good substitute if needed.
