- ¼ cup of milk any percentage, divided
- 1 to 2 tablespoons 12 to 25g of granulated sugar*
- 1 tablespoon 5g of unsweetened cocoa powder
- 1 cup of cold coffee*
- 1 tablespoon of heavy cream optional
- Whipped cream optional, for topping
- Chocolate syrup optional, for topping
In a small saucepan, combine 2 tablespoons of the milk with the sugar and cocoa powder. Heat over medium, whisking continuously until the mixture starts to simmer and becomes smooth and fully blended.
Remove from heat and whisk in the cold coffee, the remaining 2 tablespoons of milk, and the optional heavy cream.
Pour the mixture over ice in a 16-ounce glass or mason jar, then top with whipped cream and a drizzle of chocolate syrup if desired. Enjoy!

Use 1 tablespoon of sugar for a less sweet mocha, or 2 tablespoons if you prefer a sweeter mocha that stays flavorful even as the ice melts.

If you don’t have cold coffee, you can brew a pot at double strength and pour it over ice (about 1 heaping cup of ice per 1 cup of coffee), or pour hot coffee into a large cup and chill it in the freezer for 15 to 20 minutes until it reaches at least room temperature.

To make a mocha frappuccino, prepare the recipe as written but use heaping tablespoons of sugar instead of level ones (since the ice will dilute the sweetness), then blend 1 1/2 cups of ice with the mocha mixture until smooth.
